Porsche Have Announced The Lightest 911 Ever In the Carrera T
Fans of driving for pure enjoyment, listen up! Porsche has just revealed another 911 variant: the new Carrera T. A throwback to the 911 T from 1968, the ‘T’ here stands for Touring, not Turbo. Coming with a whole host of back-to-basics features, the 911 Carrera T is being branded as the lightest 911 on sale today, and is also going to be available with a manual.
First, the numbers. The 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T will go from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds with the manual, or 4.0 seconds with the Sport Chrono PDK. Top speed hasn’t been officially announced (or calculated) yet, but Porsche says the T will exceed 180mph with either option. This is thanks to the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six found in the base car, which chucks out 370 bhp and 339 lb-ft of torque.
All great numbers, no doubt. But we’d imagine its target audience will be most interested in this 911’s weight. Thanks to plenty of stripping back and alternative materials, the Carrera T has a curb weight of just 3,135 pounds – that’s 44 pounds less than a regular Carrera with all equipment being equal.
That’s thanks to things like lightweight glass being used for the side and rear windows, fabric interior door straps instead of firm handles, and a deleted infotainment system and rear seats – though both can be added back for no extra cost if for some reason you plan on using your new Porsche for a family outing…
Cosmetically, the new 911 differentiates itself up front with a new front lip and a black-and-grey theme running throughout the exterior. Inside, Porsche have finished off your seats with something they call ‘Sport-Tex fabric,’ while the 911 logo is sewn onto the headrests.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T is available very soon with prices starting at £85,576, to be exact. Head over to the Porsche Website for more details and specs.
