British icons Bentley have announced the manufacturer’s first attempt at an off-roader in the beautiful Bentayga. What’s almost certainly going to be the most luxurious SUV in the world was unveiled this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show!
It’s hard to know what sort of Joe will be buying the Bentayga. After all, buyers of the world’s most luxurious (and expensive) 4×4 are going to want practicality as well as presence. With presence bit, this SUV has it in buckets-full. It’s a thing of beauty and is unmistakably Bentley with the trademark ‘flying B’ repeated on the front flanks and in the taillight signature.
The practicality is also surprisingly strong for the Bentayga. Despite the only version coming with 6 litres, 12 cylinders and two turbos of umpf, a seven-seat Bentayga will be available for the family very soon. It’ll still go from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and max out at 187mph, though!
The Bentayga will also be able to go off-road, should Joes wish. It has a wading depth of 500mm and a ground clearance of 245mm. With the ‘Off-Road’ pack you’ll also be able to handle Snow & Grass, Dirt & Gravel, Mud & Trail and Sand Dunes with tweaks to the ride height, damping, roll control, traction control and powertrain responses.
Needless to say, if a cool bit of tech for the dashboard has been made, the Bentayga has it. The eight-inch infotainment touchscreen may be standard stuff these days, but a pair of 10.2-inch removable tablets to keep the kids quiet in the back isn’t. Bentley have even thrown in a 3.5-inch touch-screen remote for climate and audio settings too. As you do.
Other cool features include auto-dipping headlights, auto-braking, adaptive cruise control that steers for Joes through traffic jams and 360-degree cameras for getting into tight spaces. There’s also a choice of 90 colour finishes, 15 types of carpet, 7 types of veneer and 15 leather combos. So this is not one for the indecisive Joe! The Bentley Bentayga will set Joes back £160,000 before any added extras.
