Following its appearance at Goodwood Revival, Caterham have announced details on the Seven Sprint, a model which is being released to celebrate Seven’s 60th birthday and was originally designed in the 1960s but never saw the light on day. That is until now!

Caterham 60th Anniversary Seven Sprint

As if it’s been dug up from a time capsule, Caterham Cars has built a variant of its iconic Seven that was seemingly planned in the mid-1960s but never launched – the Caterham Seven Sprint. It’s all in aid of the brand’s ‘60 Years of the Seven’ anniversary which will be celebrated next year and the model is even going up for sale.

The 2017 Seven Sprint is powered by the same 80hp, three-cylinder Suzuki engine installed in Caterham’s entry-level Seven 160 model. That means this vintage-inspired beauty can reach modest speeds of up to 60mph in approximately 6.9 seconds. Might not sound much, but that’s not too bad for a throwback.

The Sprint features a host of nostalgia-soaked features, including a choice of six paint colours that were original British manufacturer colours available in 1966. The Sprint chassis is also authentic coming in a powder-coated grey, making it period-accurate for a Series 2 Lotus 7, while the suspension and rollover bar are also reminiscent of Colin Chapman’s original.

The body comes with flared front wings, a polished exhaust silencer and uniquely retro-styled, individual rear lights. Naturally the bodywork also comes emblazoned with retro Caterham branding and the Sprint logo.

Inside things only continue to impress with a wooden-rimmed sports steering wheel and dashboard in scarlet red, complete with a classic oOOo instrument layout. The tacho even features red and yellow sectors, in true 60s style.

Only 60 models of the Caterham Seven Sprint are available for purchase, starting at £27,995. Head over to the Caterham Website for more details.
