Citroën C4 Cactus

Citroen have been a little quiet of late, after impressing us with the DS range all the way 3 through 5 over the last few years, we couldn’t really find much new that excited us. However that could be all about to change with all new Citroën C4 Cactus.
Taking the normal C4 hatchback design to a new level, and with a rather cool name, the Cactus is visually striking with a cross hatchback / SUV look that will no doubt appeal to a slightly wider audience. What is really interesting (and perhaps strange) about the Citroën C4 Cactus though, is Airbump. At first we thought they were concept only, but it really does seem that Citroën will be launching with these little external, airbag like structures attached.
Made from a soft to the touch TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), the tough sponge like capsules held absorb impacts and every day bumps. They are available in 4 colours, and though we are sure they won’t appeal to everyone’s taste, they are a little funky. Although I am sure sensible, we can’t help but feel mollycoddled and wrapped in cotton wool. Time will tell.
Internally, and it is very sustainable and natural, similar in many ways to the BMW i3 which we loved. Great tones, lots of fabrics and textures, all backed up with some great technology. a 7-inch touchscreen as standard to control everything you might need, a digital speedo / instruments and some quirky leather door straps, come handles. Apps will also be available, helping us towards a more phone orientated motoring world.
The all new Citroën C4 Cactus has certainly made us sit up and notice, let’s hope it lives up to the billing in the flesh.
