Jaguar have finally unveiled the I-PACE, the manufacturers first ever all-electric car. Clean, smart and safe, the I-PACE is set to deliver sustainable sports car performance ad next-generation AI tech alongside five-seat SUV practicality. In short, it could just be the electric car we’ve all been waiting for.
So let’s start with the electrics. The I-PACE will come with a state-of-the-art 90kWh Lithium-ion battery, which Jaguar say will deliver a range of up to 298 miles on a single charge. The charging time is also impressive with owners able to achieve a 0-80% battery charge in 85 minutes using DC charging (50kW).
As the technology is rolled out across the UK, the I-PACE will also charge 0-80% in 40 minutes using DC Rapid Chargers (100kW), and home charging with an AC wall box (7kW) will achieve the same state of charge in just over ten hours – ideal for overnight charging. So it’s a big green tick next to the battery, but what about performance?
Well, Jaguar have placed two electric motors at each axle. The result is a combined performance of 400PS and 696Nm, all-wheel-drive, and all-surface traction. From a standing start, the I-PACE will hit 60mph in just 4.5secs. This is matched with ‘exceptional ride comfort’ and engaging driving dynamics thanks to a light body and low centre of gravity.
Design-wise, it’s fairly inoffensive with a sleek, coupe-like silhouette that’s been influenced by the Jaguar C-X75 supercar. That means a short, low bonnet, aero-enhanced roof design and curved rear screen. To optimise the balance between cooling and aerodynamics, Active Vanes in the grille open and close when required.
Inside, things are spacious and sophisticated with premium Kvadrat, and naturally there’s a load of gadgets to keep you preoccupied. There’s a new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, a new EV navigation system to assess the topography of a route, and the I-PACE will also utilise Amazon’s Alexa for questions like, “Is my car locked?”
The all-electric Jaguar I-PACE is available to order now with prices starting at £63,495. Head over to the Jaguar Website for more specs and info.
