Now it’s not everyday that you get to go on track in a rather fast 4×4. And it is less often when you get to pit that car in a race against a Silence SA1100 Twister stunt plane. However, that is exactly what we did with Jeep’s new monster SUV, the Grand Cherokee SRT.
We headed down to Blyton park in Lincolnshire to partake in a challenge that would have us throwing two and a half tonnes of 4×4 around corners at high speeds with the SA1100 stunt plane encroaching in our rear view mirror. Well… that would depend on whether we were any good or not, but nonetheless a feating task that would well and truly put the SRT through its paces.
Capable of reaching 0-60 in less than five seconds, no thanks to it’s 6.4L v8 HEMI powered engine, and a surprising for the weight and size 461BHP, the Grand Cherokee SRT really is something special. Somehow, regardless of it’s weight coming in at around two and a half tonnes, the SRT manages to maintain it’s impressive track friendly qualities, performing excellently under the pressures of hard cornering and sharp braking. We aren’t sure what automotive wizardry is at play here, but whatever it is, it’s working.
Take a look at the video below to see how we got on racing the SRT against the SA1100 stunt plane, you may just be a little surprised at the result…
