McLaren P1 Revealed
Update: Check out the official production McLaren P1.
The petrolheads amongst us were hugely excited when McLaren decided to return to making their own breed of supercars. They redefined the term in 1994 with the F1. A 240mph rocket that you could scare not one, but two passengers in, and was the first car to win Le Mans on it’s first attempt (apart from the car that won the very first Le Mans race of course).
Fast forward to 2011 and the new McLaren MP4-12c hits the roads. It is well received but it is not the ‘new F1’. Instead it is a rival to the Ferrari 458 for less money. Fans still expect a hypercar from Woking and today we have been given a glimpse of what that new car may look like.
The new McLaren P1 will get its first public outing at the upcoming Paris Motorshow. At this stage it is purely a design study but a production version will be shown next year. Few details are known about the cars but rumours of 900+bhp and KERS (Similar to the Kinetic Energy Recovery System seen in Formula 1 cars) are flying about.
‘The McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage,’ says McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. ‘Twenty years ago we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again.’
McLaren has one goal for this car; ‘to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track’. We’ll have to wait and see if that is the case but what we’ve seen so far does look pretty special indeed.
What do you think of the new McLaren P1? Crazy looking or crazy beautiful?
