Mercedes ENER-G-FORCE Concept

I’m one of those people who loves the Mercedes G-Class. It may be getting a little long-in-the-tooth but its rugged looks and on-road presence separate it from the rest of the Chelsea tractors clogging up the streets of our cities. I know the 33 year old car won’t be made forever so I’d like to think that Mercedes will replace it with a modern alternative, just as Land Rover are planning to do with the Defender. And today, we may just have got a glimpse in to that future with the reveal of the Mercedes ENER-G-FORCE concept and the next ‘Geländewagen’.
Whilst this design was created solely for the The Los Angeles Design Challenge 2012 (which is a quest for the “Highway Patrol Vehicle of 2025”), it does represent a possible direction that Mercedes could take with their future off-roaders. Gorden Wagener, Director of Design at Mercedes-Benz Cars said: “The Ener-G-Force is the vision of an off-roader that, while reflecting tomorrow’s adventures, also invokes the genes of the Mercedes-Benz off-road icon, the G model. Modern and cool, it could also be a clue about a new beginning for the off-road design idiom of Mercedes-Benz.”
The concept clearly draws inspiration from the ageing off-roader but that is far from a bad thing. Mercedes if you are reading this, please build it!
We love the look of the new ENER-G-FORCE but what do you think of Mercedes’ latest creation?
