To be honest I am not the biggest fan of the drop-top Mini’s and when I saw this story I was pretty un-inspired. However after seeing a couple of snaps I may just be turned into a Mini speedster lover!
The two-seater stunner will be based on the current mini convertible, however it will be the quickest mini ever running either the 175bhp 1.6-litre Cooper S powerplant or, for even more fun and frolics, a John Cooper Works version offering 208bhp. This is set to sprint to 60mph in six seconds dead, and all the way to 150mph. Both models will feature EfficientDynamics to boost economy and cut emissions.
On the outside – roll hoops, a lower and wider stance and oversized wheelarches give the roadster feel, but the split front grille, familiar bonnet scoop and chrome-rimmed tail-lights, as well as the twin central exhausts, ensure it’s still in-line with a Mini’s looks.
The roof will be an electronic soft-top similar to the current convertible to cut down on weight, however you can also have a removable hard-top that fits snugly over the canvas hood for the winter.
With prices starting at around £18,000 for the Cooper S version when it goes on sale in 2011 i can’t wait. I will be knocking 30, but it is definitely on my Christmas list.
