Volvo Concept XC Coupé
Making its debut at the North American International Auto Show, the sophisticated and capable Volvo Concept XC Coupé aims to capture the imagination of people with an active lifestyle.
The model features 2 doors, and 4 seats making it ideal for a couple with friends or a family of four who enjoy outdoor pursuits. The XC part makes it a more substantial version of its closest model sibling – its little brother the Volvo Concept Coupé, yet the XC coupé is offered with larger wheel arches. bigger wheels and a higher roofline.
For the thrill seekers it is a unique opportunity to combine the excitement of your chosen activities with the vehicle designed to get you to and from them safely. There are flashes of hi-vis orange which are inspired by extreme sports protective gear, and the inclusion of matte rubber mouldings to the rear of the vehicle all of which give an insight into the inherent safety aspect of the car whilst combining this with the good looks and practicality of the vehicle.
Design-wise Volvo are keen for a strong link through their scalable product architecture (SPA) visible through the confident stance of their vehicles, the proportions of those vehicles and a shared design DNA. Aesthetically, the sophistication is demonstrated by the flow of the bodywork, and integration of the skid plates into the normal panelling, the T-shaped daylight running light guides alongside some sharp new rear lights and a distinctive floating front grill.
Should it get the go-ahead, the price is yet to be confirmed, but we would imagine it would be toward the higher end of Volvos offerings and gives a strong indication of their SPA going forward, with some models (*cough XC90 cough*) being well overdue a facelift/overhaul.
Hopefully if released, we’ll get behind the wheel of an XC Coupé and it may bring some much needed fun back into the Volvo range!
