We don’t know about you but tequila has inspired more than its fair share of memorable evenings for us here at the blog. And it would appear that it has much the same effect on us humble Average Joes as it does on the rich and famous of LA and New York.
A curious phenomenon has occurred that has seen a plethora of celebrities endorse, and in many cases own, a tequila brand. To give you a taste for the weekend ahead, here are 10 celebrity-owned tequilas!
1) Carlos Santana Casa Noble
The Santana frontman Carlos Santana became a partner of Casa Noble tequilas in 2011. Casa Noble Tequila is well-regarded both within the industry and amongst tequila enthusiasts. It was also the second tequila brand ever to receive organic certification.
2) Vince Neil Tres Rios
Who better to judge the quality of tequila than the frontman of heavy-metal band Mötley Crüe, Vince Neil, who has almost certainly had his fill of the golden nectar over the years? He launced his Tres Rios tequila back in 2007.
3) Toby Keith Wild Shot
While technically not tequila, the country star Toby Keith is the owner of the Wild Shot mezcal. “What’s the difference between tequila and mezcal?” we hear you ask. Well, firstly they’re made is different regions of Mexico. Tequila can also only be made, by law, with one variety of agave: the Blue Agave. Mezcal can be made with upwards of 30 varieties of agave, though most are made with the Agave Espadin. In every bottle of Wild Shot, you’ll find an agave worm. And the worm is not there for the look, it’s there to be eaten. You first…!
4) Bob Pittman Casa Dragones
Casa Dragones is certainly no spirit to hit Shot City with. It’s said to uniquely smooth, with a refined character and softer finish. And because it’s a sipping tequila, which means Casa Dragones is meant to be savoured slowly, one sip at a time. It’s also owned by the MTV founder Bob Pittman.
5) Shaquille O’Neal Montalvo
While he’s not an official partner or even an official endorser, NBA legend ‘The Shaq’ has two Montalvo tequilas named after him, Shaq O and Shaquila. Genius.
6) Sean Combs DeLeón Tequila
P Diddy/Puffy Daddy/Seam Coombs might not be able to settle on his alias but boy does he love his spirits. Having already been the brand ambassador for Cîroc premium vodka, he became an official partner of DeLeón in 2013. DeLeón tequilas have been described as ‘gentle, delicate, and graceful.’
7) Sammy Hagar Cabo Wabo
Sammy Hager is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thanks to his time as the frontman for Van Halen. He’s also the founder of Cabo Wabo, a tequila that embodies his beliefs of living free, working hard and playing harder. During his time in Van Halen, it’s probably safe to assume that he had his fair amount of the stuff – so we trust it’s good!
8) Xzibit Bonita Platinum
While the Pimp My Ride presenter, rapper and all round good guy Xzibit might not own his own tequila outright, he is a partner in Bonita Spirits after the owner Chris Brown sent him one of the first bottles of Bonita Platinum produced to try. Bonita Platinum is the world’s only five-times distilled tequila.
9) Justin Timberlake Suaza 901
JT loves his tequila too and has collaborated with one of the most storied tequila house, Casa Sauza to produce one! It’s called Suaza 901 and is said to be an incredibly smooth, finely crafted, triple distilled spirit created by two partners with a shared passion for premium tequila.
10) George Clooney Casamigos
Casamigos is owned by George Clooney and his chums Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman. Produced in small batches, this ultra-premium tequilas is made from the finest hand-selected 100% Blue Weber agaves, grown in the rich red clay soil and cool climate of Mexico’s Jalisco Highlands for a minimum of seven years.
