Netflix Drop Trailer for New Cyberpunk Series Altered Carbon
With the critical if not commercial success of Blade Runner 2049 clearing the way for techno-cyberpunk thrillers in the mainstream, Netflix have just dropped a new trailer for their upcoming dystopian noir series, Altered Carbon. And it looks like it might well be one to look out for!
Based on Richard K. Morgan’s sci-fi novel of the same name, Altered Carbon takes place in a dystopian future where humans have developed a technology that allows for someone to transfer their consciousness from one body to another, often switching between bodies years in the future.
After being murdered, Earth’s richest man, Laurens Bancroft (played by James Purefoy), hires an ex-soldier named Takeshi Kovacs (House of Cards’ Joel Kinnaman) to solve Bancroft’s attempted murder for the chance to live again in a world he doesn’t recognise.
Though there’s already been a couple of teaser trailers delving into the mystery, this full length trailer is the best look we get at the Altered Carbon cyberpunk universe yet. And to us, it looks incredibly impressive with references to Blade Runner 2049’s stunning cinematography unavoidable.
Joel Kinnaman has described the series as “a world that’s got a bigger budget than the first three seasons of Game of Thrones.” That implies to us Netflix have high hopes for Altered Carbon.
Altered Carbon is set to hit Netflix on Friday 2nd February 2018, so not long to wait now. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. And also check out our full run down of TV shows to watch in 2018.
