The nominations for the 2018 Bafta Film Awards have just been announced with Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water leading the award nominations with 12 nods in total. Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk and Three Billboards have been nominated alongside The Shape of Water for Best Film.

Bafta Film Awards 2018: The Nominees

The fantasy romance stars Sally Hawkins as a janitor who forms a relationship with an amphibious creature being held in captivity by head of the facility Michael Shannon. Hawkins has also been nominated for Leading Actress alongside Saoirse Ronan, Annette Bening, Frances McDormand, and Margot Robbie, who is nominated for her portrayal of controversial Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya.

Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri also received plenty of nominations – nine each – while Gary Oldman, Daniel Day-Lewis, Jamie Bell and Daniel Kaluuya are among the British nominees for Leading Actor, alongside for Phantom Thread and Timothee Chalamet for Call Me By Your Name.

The Best Director award will be fought out between Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name), Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape Of Water), and Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
