Best Outdoor Cinemas in the UK
Summer is just around the corner and one of our favourite things to do on a warm evening is head to one of the UK’s many open air cinemas. Naturally, some of the coolest are located in the capital – and for that we refer you to our lovely sisters at Average Janes for the Best Outdoor Cinemas in London – but we’re focusing on the best of the rest around the UK. So without further ado, here’s our best outdoor cinemas in the UK for summer 2016!
Cult Screens – Oxford Castle
Films: Casablanca, Lost Boys, Back to the Future, Star Wars: The Force Awakens…
Cult Screens have tens of pop-up around the UK with some of the country’s most breath-taking settings on their list. One of the best in the Cult repertoire this summer is Oxford Castle who have an extensive programme spanning from now until September, including new releases and cult classics all within the perfect setting of the grand Castle.
Luna Cinema – Bournemouth Pier Approach

Picnic Cinema – Muncaster Castle, Cumbria
When: Friday 5th – Saturday 6th August

While it might not be accessible to every Joes given how far north it is, Muncaster Castle in Cumbria is the setting for one of the most picturesque outdoor cinema experiences on our list. The two evenings at the Grade I listed building are put on by a Picnic Cinema and offer Joes a truly unique evening with all income raised going to Remote, a Rural Touring Cinema project that enables rural communities to put on cinema screenings in their village venue.
Open Air Cinema – Leeds Castle, Maidstone
When: Thursday 28th – Saturday 30th July
Films: Bridesmaids, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Top Gun
Believe it or not, Leeds Castle isn’t actually in Leeds. In fact it’s even south of London! But don’t let the silliness of the name put you off – this is a stunning venue with many locals modestly calling this piece of history, ‘the loveliest castle in the world!’ Ran by Open Air Cinema, there’s three screenings going on in summer 2016 with Top Gun finishing things off on Saturday 30th July.
Cult Screens – York Museum Gardens

Another Cult Screens presentations, there’s three screenings at the end of September with Pulp Fiction being our tip!
