Best Winter Pop-Ups in London 2016
Winter is coming. And rather than moan about the cold and the wet, we say you should embrace the multitude of awesome pop-ups the capital throws up this time of year. To help you along the way, here’s some of the best winter pop-ups in London for 2016!
Rekorderlig Cider Lodge
Location: Entrance off Southbank Centre’s Queen’s Walk, London SE1 8XX.
Nearest Tube: Waterloo
Rekorderlig’s effortlessly stylish Cider Lodge returns to the Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival this week for seasonal fun and festivities, allowing Joes and Janes to immerse themselves in Scandinavian style, culture, food and drink. You’ve probably past the Rekorderlig Cider Lodge on your Southbank travels at one point or another but for the uninitiated, the Cider Lodge is a two-floor structure that resembles a quintessential Scandinavian house. Inside you can enjoy winter drinks and a cider or two, while outside you’ll get the chance to sample some delicious Scandinavian street food.
Big Apple Brixton
Location: The Brixton Rooftop, Popes Road, SW9 8JH.
Nearest Tube: Brixton
Big Apple Brixton is a South London event space which will be hosting three themed indoor bars and one themed nightclub throughout the Christmas period, all based on iconic venues from 1970s New York City. Delicious street food will be served by Mac to the Future (mac n’ cheese), Burger Bear (burgers), Grandmaster Slice (NYC-style pizza) and Plucky’s (buttermilk chicken), and there’s also four private rooms available for private hire on site, each with a different theme. Each space can cater for up to 20 guests which makes Big Apple Brixton ideal for the office party as well as casual drink after work!
Sliders Curling Club
Location: Rood East, 45a Broadway, E15 1XD.
Nearest Tube: Stratford
Bowling’s weird winter cousin will be the focus of festivities at Sliders Curling Club this season with the Roof East space featuring four neon lit, freshly marked curling lanes, alongside a line-up of DJs and themed cocktails. As well as having drinks served to you at your lane, there’ll also be an array of street food to keep you suitably refreshed. And if that wasn’t enough, Sliders Curling Club also has room for karaoke. Brought to you in partnership with Lucky Voice, all booths come with themed karaoke, drinks service, and a welcome cocktail served warm in a Thermos to warm-up the vocal cords.
Coppa Club Igloo
Location: 3 Three Quays Walk, Lower Thames Street, EC3R 6AH.
Nearest Tube: Tower Hill
When alfresco dining is no longer an option, we’ve always found the next best option is eating in an igloo. So imagine our delight when we found out that relaxed European eatery Coppa Club has installed eight igloo-style PVC party-domes along the Thames to keep you in touch with nature (and still warm) while tucking into your grub. Coming complete with sheepskin blankets and festive cocktails, Coppa Club Tower Bridge offers Joes and Janes the chance to dine in private hire igloos with sensational views of the Tower Bridge and the surrounding Thameside.
PISTE Winter Bar
Location: 3-4 Archer Street, W1D 7AP.
Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus
If you’re can’t afford a trip to Verbier or Val-d’Isère over the winter, bring the après-ski to you at the ultra-cosy PISTE pop-up winter bar in Archer Street. The banquette style booths and alcoves set alongside the reclaimed rafter boards give the venue its rustic-chic feel, while the quirky mirrors and wall coverings compliment the long reclaimed metal bar, which provides a stunning focal point to the room. PISTE will naturally be serving up a plethora of alpine-inspired cocktails including red berry vodka with Grand Marnier and winter grenadine, as well as the signature Cable Car with vodka, sloe gin, lime, mint leaves and ginger. Winter warming if nothing else!
Vauxhall Winter Village
Location: 6A South Lambeth Place, SW8 1RT.
Nearest Tube: Vauxhall
Just like Piste, if you can’t make it to the slopes, bring the slopes to you in Vauxhall. From the good folk behind Vauxhall’s street food garden comes a ski village in the heart of Vauxhall. Think fondue stalls, a cable car photo booth and a winter sports bar full of winter-inspired cocktails and all the mulled wine you can down.
