He may have been off acting duty for a couple of years but Brad Pitt is making a big comeback in 2019. Following the release of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a new trailer for Ad Astra has just dropped and we’re intrigued to say the least.

Directed by James Gray (The Lost City of Z, The Immigrant, Two Lovers) – who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ethan Gross – Ad Astra follows astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt) as he travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet.

If that sounds mysterious, the trailer only adds to the intrigue with some seriously impressive solar vistas and various planetary expeditions. It also delves into why the cast are attempting to find a menacing-looking Tommy Lee Jones (who plays Pitt’s father) and why his location could threaten all life on Earth.

The stellar names don’t end with Pitt or Jones either, with Donald Sutherland playing a colleague of Jones who accompanies Pitt in finding him. He also rather ominously proclaims that “the enemy up here is not a person or a thing, it’s the endless void.” There’s also some footage of what looks like a battle on Mars.

Ad Astra stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Liv Tyler, Ruth Negga, and Jamie Kennedy, and will be released in UK cinemas on Wednesday 18th September 2019. Take a look at the trailer below.
