If you love a true crime podcast as much as we do, chances are it was Serial got you hooked onto the genre. The first series documented the murder of Hae Min Lee and the subsequent arrest of her boyfriend Adnan Syed. It’s one of the most listened to podcasts of all time, so it should come as no great surprise that the case has been made into a documentary by HBO called ‘The Case Against Adnan Syed’, and it’s got itself a trailer.
The Case Against Adnan Syed will explore the 1999 disappearance and murder of 18-year-old Baltimore County high school student Hae Min Lee, and the resulting conviction of her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed. The case was brought to global attention by Serial in 2014, but we were never left with definitive answers.
HBO’s new documentary will be a four-part mini-series produced by Amy Berg, and is set to highlight a number of grey areas in Syed’s case. Judging from the trailer, it looks like some of these grey areas will be expanded as new information comes to light through the 20-year-long-investigation.
According to the makers, the documentary aims to deliver “new discoveries and revelations that challenge the state’s case,” with interviews from Syed himself, as well as his family, defence team, the Baltimore law enforcement team, as well as friends and teachers of Hae Min Lee.
The Case Against Adnan Syed is set to air on 10th March 2019 stateside, while it’ll arrive in the UK on Sky Atlantic on Monday 1st April 2019.
