Creed Film Trailer
Revitalising film franchises seems to be the trend in Hollywood in recent years with attempts at Mad Max, Superman and Star Trek all under the industry’s belt, with a mixture of successes and failures it should be said. The latest in that line is Creed, a Rocky spinoff, which stars Michael B. Jordan (That Awkward Moment and Chronicle), and we’ve finally got a trailer for it.
Creed, shot by Jordan’s Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler, sees the hot young actor as Adonis Johnson, a driven fighter who despite a natural boxing ability, never knew his father, world heavyweight champion and original Rocky films regular, Apollo Creed. Apollo, who was a good friend of Stallone’s, had died in the ring before Adonis was born after a fight in Rocky IV with Dolph Lungren’s Ivan Drago.
While Adonis isn’t overly keen to embrace his father’s past, he knows he needs a good trainer, so he heads to Philadelphia to find one of his dad’s most famous opponents: Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Despite Rocky’s insistence that he’s packed up the world of boxing for good, Rocky sees Adonis’ talent and agrees to take him on as his pupil
Michael B. Jordan could be exactly what the outdated Rocky franchise needs. He’s hot property and we’re hoping the profile of the film and his ability could be a match made in heaven. From the trailer, it does look like Creed will be very much as you’d expect from a Rocky film – but we’re more than fine with that!
Co-starring Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and real life professional boxer Anthony Bellew, Creed arrive in the UK on the 27th November. Take a look at the trailer below.
