Whether you get the hype or not, Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak is one of the year’s most anticipated movies. And we finally have our first trailer for it!
The Pacific Rim director is going back to roots with a gothic horror that revolves around the goings-on in an old English mansion during the 19th century.
The plot goes as follows: In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.
The aspiring author in question is Edith Cushing, played by Mia Wasikowska. The movie chronicles her experiences after her new husband – played by Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers’s Loki) – whisks her away to his old family mansion, the eerie Crimson Peak.
As you can probably tell from the first teaser it’s not exactly a humble and cosy abode with darkness lurking around every corner. Aesthetically Crimson Peak looks to showcase the beauty of gothic horror that Del Toro expertly showcased in Pan’s Labyrinth.
Throw in Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) as Edith’s creepy sister-in-law and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarachy) as a charming suitor keen to remove her from the mansion… and this looks set to be the year’s must-see horror.
Crimson Peak will open on the 16th October later this year. Have a look at the trailer and see what you think.
