Is Danny McBride Set to Star in a ‘Crocodile Dundee’ Reboot?
It’s been over 30 years since your dad’s favourite un-PC Australian first hit the big screen in 1986’s Crocodile Dundee. But like all classics these days, it’s getting a reboot… or is it? 2018’s version will allegedly star loudmouth, self-confessed ‘god’s greatest gift’, Danny McBride, as Mick Dundee’s illegitimate son. It’s even got a couple of teaser trailers… But maybe all isn’t what it seems.
Dundee: The Son Of A Legend Returns Home – to give it it’s full name – sees Danny McBride as Brian Dundee as he gets lost in the Outback trying to find his father (played by the always hilarious Paul Hogan). But given McBride’s disastrous nature, he’s unsurprisingly getting some help along the way in the form of local expert, Wally Jr., played by Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.
The teasers gives basically nothing away except it’s McBride who’s been given the role and the few lines he has in the trailer. That’s it. Which got us a little bit suspicious about the whole thing. Thankfully, the good folk at the Brisbane Times have saved us the detective work by revealing the teasers are nothing more than a bit of viral advertising.
Yes, there’s a reason Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home doesn’t currently have a release date and that’s because it’s apparently ‘part of an advertising campaign for Tourism Australia, set to air during next month’s Super Bowl’ between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles in Minnesota.
While Tourism Australia haven’t commented on the rumours, this seems to make far more sense than McBride playing Hogan’s illegitimate son!
