The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a who’s who in the celeb world. So much so, it currently features over 2,600 stars from the world of film, TV, radio, and theatre. But the number is set to decrease and that’s because West Hollywood City Council has just unanimously passed a resolution calling for Donald Trump’s star to be removed.

Yes, the five-member West Hollywood City Council is taking away Donald Trump’s star. It comes after the latest vandalisation of Trump’s star was allegedly demolished by Austin Mikel Clay with a pickaxe in July. In the resolution, the city council cited the costs of repeated vandalism and demonstrations around the Trump star.

It’s not the first time Trump’s Walk of Fame star has been vandalised either. In October 2016, a man was filmed hitting the star with a sledgehammer. It’s also been repeatedly spat on, with many spray-painting the star with offensive graffiti. The latest attack could see the perpetrator, Austin Mikel Clay, face a possible maximum sentence of three years in jail. Bail is also recommended at 20 thousand US dollars (£15,400).

The City Council’s agenda also cited President Donald J. Trump’s ‘disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country’ as reasons for removal of the star.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce had previously stated it would never remove a star over backlash. CEO Leron Gubler explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” It seems there’s a first time for everything!
