Dope Film Trailer
Sometimes a film comes along with more buzz around it than a Queen Bee. This year that film is Dope. It was a smash hit with critics at Sundance and it’s making its way over the Atlantic to the UK next month and we also have a brand new trailer!
The film is set in LA and follows three self-confessed geeks and aspiring college students; Malcolm, played by Shameik Moore, Jib played by Tony Revolori (Zero from Grand Budapest Hotel and Diggy, played by Kiersey Clemons. The three nerds get a chance invitation to an underground party which leads them into an adventure that involves pushing lots and lots of drugs.
While you might not know the three leads barring Revolori, Dope has a lot of serious names attached to it. Firstly, it’s produced by Forest Whitaker and has Pharrell Williams as its Executive Producer. It’s also notable for the acting debut of rapper A$AP Rocky, who plays a cheery gangster called Dom.
From the trailer and the reviews already knocking around, it sounds as though Dope is a classic coming-of-age comedy which has been compared to an urbanised Superbad, which would be just fine by us!
Dope is written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, an alumnus of the illustrious SoCal school that gave us the likes of Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and George Lucas. So we’re expecting to hear a lot more about Famuyiwa in the future. Dope will arrive on these shores on the 4th September this year. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you’re as intrigued as we are!
