Downsizing Film Trailer Matt Damon
Tipped to be in the running come Oscar season, Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig star in the first trailer for Downsizing. Alexander Payne’s new flick explores a world in which scientists attempt to solve the planet’s overpopulation by shrinking people to five inches tall, and it looks perfectly bonkers!
The issue of overpopulation on Earth is a very real one and something future generations may have to actually deal with. But Alexander Payne’s (Sideways, Nebraska) new film Downsizing deals with it in a very novel way – by simply shrinking humans down to 0364% of their normal mass and thereby using less resources and taking up much less space. Problem solved!
Matt Damon plays Paul Safranek, an everyman who decides to abandon his stress-filled life in Omaha to get involved with a new downsized community who may be small in stature but high in riches. Joined by his wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig), Paul is promised a better quality of life, but such a life is not without its challenges, and the procedure is irreversible.
Downsizing looks like a quintessential Payne film with a middle-aged everyman reaching a breaking point in his life. Similarly, like all of Payne’s films, this crossroads, almost coming-of-age plotline is fused with some off-beat humour. Think Honey, I Shrunk The Kids meets Pleasantville – ideal for the likes of Damon who usually nails those innocent wide-eyed roles.
Co-starring Jason Sudeikis, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Laura Dern and Neil Patrick Harris, Downsizing premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month to rave reviews, and will make an appearance at the London Film Festival in October, before being released worldwide on 22nd December.
