Fargo TV Preview
The upcoming Fargo TV series has got us interested here at Average Joes. As a big fan of the original 1996 Coen brothers film, and a true hipster at heart, I wasn’t too enthused at first to hear it was being adapted for our television viewing pleasure. However, perhaps all is not lost.
Offbeat-highly-strung-hobit Martin Freeman and everyone’s favourite Southern badass Billy Bob Thornton are on board and my expectations were only further raised on seeing the trailer. Take a look…
The released plot details are scarce but still promising: ‘A drifter named Lorne Malvo (Thornton) arrives in Bemidji, Minnesota and influences the population with his malice and violence, including put-upon insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Freeman).’
The similarities to the film are unclear but it seems no characters are reoccurring. What is certain from the trailer and images released is that it’s certainly going to look as beautiful as the original with Minnesota’s snowy backdrop providing a perfect canvas. Probably for a drop of blood at some point too.
With the casting of Freeman, coming off his note-perfect dry wit performances in The Hobbit, we’re sure to see the dark-comic drama we saw in the original. Thornton looks sinister enough too. Plus Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad) is in it!
It is also reassuring that the Coens are on board as executive producers and were said to be impressed with the script. They wouldn’t let the Fargo name be used if it wasn’t worthy would they? Would they!?
Fargo starts on Channel 4 this Sunday, 20th April at 9pm.
