Glenfiddich Experimental Series

Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt whisky, has just launched their Experimental Series; a new range designed to inspire unusual and unexpected variants on their famous Scotch whisky. The first two of which are the IPA Experiment and the Project XX.
We actually managed to head north of the border to have a little tipple (all for you guys) and can confirm they are rather different from anything Glenfiddich currently offers, especially the IPA. Whilst a true whisky lover may not appreciate the new direction, we adored the slightly more accessible flavour to the untrained pallet! Expect a full review soon of both!
Combining the brand’s passion for pushing Scotch whisky boundaries and collaborating with trailblazers beyond the world of whisky, the Glenfiddich Experiment Series begins with the release of the IPA Experiment. In collaboration with IPA expert, Seb Jones, Glenfiddich created an innovative new craft ale to finish their ground-breaking single malt.
Their malt Master Brian Kinsman collaborated with the local Speyside craft brewer to create a bold and zesty IPA beer which was then used to imbue Glenfiddich’s rich oak casks for some extra hoppy notes. The IPA Experiment has resulted in the first ever single malt Scotch whisky to be finished in craft IPA casks.
Their second experiment is their most ambitious expression to date. The Project XX (pronounced ‘Twenty’) is an unusual single malt which was made by combining 20 industry experts’ top picks from the Glenfiddich warehouse to create one single exceptional malt blend.
Project XX was shrouded in secrecy when Kinsman invited 20 of Glenfiddich’s own brand ambassadors from around the globe to select any expression of their choosing from the thousands of stacked casks which lay in the Glenfiddich warehouse. The final 20 chosen malts, matured in everything ranging from port pipes to virgin bourbon barrels, have created an unusual, innovative and unexpected whisky.
Over the next few years, Glenfiddich will continue the Experimental Series by pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with their famous single malt whisky. Head over to the Glenfiddich Website for more about the IPA Experiment and Project XX.
