Hand of God TV Preview
As soon as DVD sales started plummeting, the world’s largest internet retailer didn’t hang around. Hot the heels of Netflix (n’ chill), Amazon saw the trend and started pushing Prime Instant Video. Now the online giants are hoping they can find similar success in producing their own original content. Only the second original drama they’ve produced, Hand of God is something of a litmus test for Amazon and it’s out today!
All ten episodes of Amazon Original’s Hand of God are now available to stream exclusively to Amazon Prime Instant customers. Hand of God stars Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman in his first lead television role since Sons of Anarchy as the honourable justice Pernell Harris.
The show follows Judge Harris as he suffers a mental breakdown becoming a born-again Christian and goes on a vigilante quest to find a rapist who tore his family apart. With no real evidence to go on, Pernell begins to rely on visions and messages he believes are being sent by God through Pernell’s son who is in a coma.
We’ve seen the pilot, which was first shown last year for Amazon customers to provide feedback on, and we like what we saw. Ron Perlman is mesmerising and brings some real dark intimidation to the role.
The only worry we have is there is a lot going on here with exploration of the nature of faith, reality and revenge – we hope the characters don’t get lost along the way. But let’s pray this is the start of something for Amazon as it could indicate a permanent new age of television.
Hand of God also stars Dana Delany as the Judge’s protective wife, Garret Dillahunt, the born-again sociopath whose violent tendencies are exploited by Pernell, Andre Royo (‘Bubs’ from The Wire) as Mayor Robert ‘Bobo’ Boston and Emayatzy Corinealdi as Pernell’s call girl.
Created and written by Ben Watkins, and marking the television debut of renowned filmmaker Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, World War Z), Hand of God is now available on Amazon Prime Instant Video to stream.
