HAY x IKEA Ypperlig Homeware Collection
During IKEA’s Democratic Design Day event in Sweden last year, the Swedish furniture giant announced a collaboration with Danish design imprint HAY. At the time they only released a teaser for thee collaboration, only showing hints of what was to come. Well, last week the Scandinavian duo unveiled the first images of the Ypperlig collection and we love it!
Meaning ‘good/excellent’ in Swedish, the HAY x IKEA Ypperlig collection features a range of chairs, lighting, shelves, sofas, desks and various home accessories, all of which reek of the modernity and minimalism you’d expect from a Scandi homeware collaboration.
The idea behind the pieces in the collection was to “challenge people’s perception of IKEA quality and design.” As such, the collection of more than 30 pieces ranges from pieces of furniture to small accessories including vases, candle holders and blankets.
Key pieces in the collection include HAY’s take on a Scandinavian plank table, as well as a sofa inspired by a vintage 50s piece but rather awesomely is made from a single moulded piece of foam. There’s also a new version of IKEA’s iconic blue and yellow Frakta bag, which has been constructed from a white and green woven fabric.
“It’s one of the most known and used IKEA products, but one that no one appreciates as a design object,” said Mette Hay. “We kept its measurements and updated it in new patterns and colours. It’s a celebration of this iconic product.”
The HAY x IKEA YPPERLIG collection is due for release sometime this August. So stay tuned over at the IKEA Website.
