Martian Film Trailer
The first trailer has landed for Ridley Scott’s latest space adventure film The Martian and from the look s of it, it seems the director, who has made a fair few flops over the years, has returned to form.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, the plot follows Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) who during a planned mission to Mars encounters a fierce storm and is left behind by his team. Everyone presumes he is dead, but somehow Watney survives and finds himself stranded and completely alone on the hostile planet.
With only a small amount of supplies, he must find a way to make a signal back down to earth using his ingenuity, yet even then, he knows it’s a long shot. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly together to bring “The Martian” home, while coinciding with this, his team plan an extremely daring, if not impossible, mission to bring him back to Earth.
The Martian features a star-studded ensemble cast, that includes: Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty), Kristen Wiig (Welcome to Me, Bridesmaids), Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber, The Newsroom), Kate Mara (Fantastic Four, House of Cards) Michael Pena (Fury, End of Watch), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Children of Men) and Donald Glover (“Community,” Mystery Team).
It is set to be a mixture of Apollo 13, Gravity and Interstellar, with scenes that will no doubt personify the feeling of sheer isolation, echoing the portrayal of Tom Hanks’ character in Cast Away who was stranded on an uninhabited island.
There may not be Wilson the volleyball for company, but the trailer hints at the novel’s obsession with calorie counting in space, so that’s something to keep Matt Damon entertained.
