Matt Damon Stars in the First Trailer for George Clooney’s Suburbicon
The first trailer for George Clooney’s 50s-set dark comedy Suburbicon has just landed. Starring Matt Damon as Gardner Lodge, a clean cut suburban dad who takes the law into his own hands after a violent home invasion, Suburbicon could just be the darkly comic tonic fans of Fargo need following the shows finale this week.
The date is 1959. Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns…the perfect place for the Lodge family to raise their kids. But the tranquil surface is nothing more than a façade and soon, husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must negotiate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence.
If from the plot alone, you’re getting a touch of the Coen Brothers, that’s because Suburbicon is co-written by Joel and Ethan. And their finger prints are all over it judging by the film’s first trailer. While things spiral out of control and get very messy indeed, the film still sees a splattering a deep black comedy that characterises much of the Coens’ work.
Suburbicon is the first that Clooney has directed since The Monuments Men (2014). And having worked regularly with the Coens, appearing in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Intolerable Cruelty, Burn After Reading and Hail, Caesar!, we think this could be a real winner.
Co-starring Oscar Isaac and the always brilliant Julianne Moore, Suburbicon will get its world premiere at the Venice film festival before being released officially in US cinemas on 3rd November and here in the UK on 24th November. Check out the full trailer below.
