The Me & EU Postcard Book Satirises Brexit
As the UK’s politicians and commentators jostle about the process and prospects of Britain’s exit from the European Union, artists up and the down have been hard at work satirising Brexit for a new postcard book curated by London-based designers Nathan Smith and Sam T Smith titled ‘Me & EU’.
Me & EU is a collection of 116 limited edition illustrations and designs which have created in reaction to last year’s Brexit vote. Nathan Smith and Sam T Smith’s vision for the book is that the use of postcards will continue a dialogue with the UK’s European neighbours.
The Me & EU project began in 2016, when the book’s curators asked artists, graphic designers, illustrators, and photographers to create a postcard-sized image that represented their view on the recent referendum result.
The 116 designs range from an illustration of an EU shoe with British gum on its sole, to a parody of the horror film The Shining, which shows pro-Brexit cheerleader Nigel Farage as the film’s lead. On the reverse of each postcard in the book, you’ll find a personal message from its creator.
The concept for Me & EU was all about keeping an open dialogue between European nations. As such, Nathan and Sam sent the cards to European artist studios on the day that Article 50 was triggered as a way of encouraging collaborations post-Brexit.
The Me & EU postcard book by Nathan Smith and Sam T Smith is available to purchase now having been published by Common Practices. Head over to the Me & EU Website now to check out the design and to purchase one for £25.
