Here’s All the Film Blockbusters You Need to Watch This Summer


Starring: Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard
Release Date: 23rd May 2019

Dexter Fletcher is back at the helm of a musician biopic in May when he follows the success of last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody with Rocketman, telling the life and times of Elton John. Taron Egerton will play the aforementioned musical legend and if the trailer is anything to go by, he’s got some pipes too!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Starring: Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins
Release Date: 29th May 2019

The latest instalment of Godzilla will hit the silver screen at the end of May, and this time he’s bringing fellow monsters Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah with him for some full-on kaiju war. Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Sally Hawkins, and Ken Watanabe should give it some humanity if you’re after more than monsters fighting to the death.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Starring: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, Jake Gyllenhaal
Release Date: 5th July 2019

While we’ve not get any official spoilers for you, we do think it’s fairly safe to assume Tom Holland AKA. Spider-Man survives Thanos’ attempt at mass and permanent destruction in Avengers: Endgame. He’s got his own standalone film coming in July and it follows our friendly neighbourhood Super Hero as he heads on a European holiday with his best pals. However, Peter Parker’s plans to leave super heroics behind are quickly scrapped when he agrees to team up with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to battle the Elementals.

Dark Phoenix

Starring: Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence
Release Date: 7th June 2019

There’s no such thing as too much Marvel. And nothing says that better than the 12th(!) instalment of the X-Men saga. A direct sequel to the X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will centre around one of the gang’s own, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) as she develops powers beyond her control and begins to turn into a corrupt Dark Phoenix. Save a friend or save the world?

Men in Black: International

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson, Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall, Emma Thompson
Release Date: 14th June 2019

While it won’t star Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, the fourth Men in Black film does reunite Thor: Ragnarok stars Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the MIB organisation.

Toy Story 4

Starring: Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Christina Hendricks, Patricia Arquette, Keanu Reeves
Release Date: 21st June 2019

We defy anyone to not have a lump in their throat during the final moments of Toy Story 3. Thankfully, the gang survived incineration (and the charity shop), ending up with a new owner, the heartbreakingly brilliant Bonnie. But in Toy Story 4, the gang have a problem when Bonnie’s reluctant new toy ‘Forky’ and Woody go missing. Will they be able to make their way home? Or will they be too enticed by a toy haven?

The Lion King

Starring: Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Oliver, Billy Eichner, James Earl Jones
Release Date: 19th July 2019

Whether you’re a fan or not, Disney’s Live Action division is here to stay and it’s going to be releasing its biggest film yet with Jon Favreau’s all-new The Lion King. The live action heads to the African savanna where a future king is born. You know the story by now and in the live-action version, Donald Glover will play Simba, Beyoncé is playing Nala, and Billy Eichner and Josh Rogan will be taking on Timon and Pumbaa.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Helen Mirren
Release Date: 2nd August 2019

The Fast & Furious universe is getting its first spinoff this summer and they couldn’t have sold it any better to us with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their characters from the series to save the world from a menacing and seemingly invincible Idris Elba. What more could you possibly want?

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Damian Lewis
Release Date: 14th August 2019

Quentin Tarantino movies are always going to be hyped and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be no different. Now pushed back until August, the film will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as two aspiring TV stars hoping to succeed in the film industry in 1969 LA. Also starring Margot Robbie, the film is set to the backdrop of the Manson Family murders, so expect plenty of violence and deranged cult figure – the perfect Tarantino kindling.
