If you read the paper on a daily basis, it may have been hard fr you to miss articles today talking about the ill-effects of alcohol. Newsflash: Alcohol is bad for you

If you read the paper on a daily basis, it may have been hard fr you to miss articles today talking about the ill-effects of alcohol. Whilst some may consider this a newsworthy item, I’d like to point out that you did already know this! How many times have you woken up after sinking one too many the night before, swearing blind that you will never drink again?

Just last week I had such an incident. A relaxed night in of Fifa and a few drinks turned into an impromptu night on the town with nothing to show for it the following morning but an empty wallet, and emptier stomach, the embarrassment of having to convince ambulance paramedics that I was not dying on the street, and a head that felt it had a Frenchman living in it. What did I say the next day? I’m never drinking again.

In all seriousness though, it is really not good for you. The BBC have reported that of 363,988 people 10% of cancers in men were caused by past, or current alcohol intake. 18% of overall cancers were related to alcohol. These figures are not happy to think about!

If you are a worrier, time to cut alcohol down to 1 pint a day – the recommended limit for your health. If you are not a worrier and believe that you are invincible, or at least cannot avoid all less than healthy substances, then this is simply just food for thought. Something to discuss over a pint or two tonight at the pub perhaps?
