ROLI Seaboard RISE

Yesterday, award-winning music technology company ROLI presented a game-changer in electronic music with the announcement of the Seaboard RISE, a universally accessible MIDI controller that empowers musicians to do more with a keyboard than ever before!
ROLI are calling the Seaboard RISE ‘a nextgeneration musical instrument.’ Keyboards are a dominant tool for music makers worldwide, but their expressive range is frustratingly limited. On paper, the RISE looks similar to a traditional keyboard, but it’s a whole heap more than that.
The Seaboard RISE is a pressure-sensitive, continuous surface that responds to even the subtlest of movements, meaning users feel far more in control than regular keyboards and can express their musicianship freely and precisely. Using the ‘keywaves’, Joes can shape notes as they play, adjusting the character of the sound with your finger movements.
But don’t just take our word for it. Oscar-winning cinematic composer Hans Zimmer knows a thing or two and adored the Seaboard: “Having the Seaboard in front of me is inspiring. It has a sensual touch which feels intuitive and very human. The Seaboard shows us how to get beyond the boundaries of the keyboard, a technology that was invented hundreds of years ago. Roland Lamb and his team are actually much closer than anyone else has ever come to doing so and thereby establishing a new, truly expressive digital instrument.”
ROLI’s custom-built multi-platform software synthesiser, Equator, also comes as a standard with all of its products. With Equator you can explore a symphonic range of sounds in real time.
The Seaboard RISE builds on the foundations that were laid by universally acclaimed Seaboard GRAND, which was dubbed ‘the piano of the future.’ Since its debut, leading artists such as Jamie xx, Jamie Cullum, Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip and the legendary A. R. Rahman have composed, produced, and performed live with the Seaboard GRAND.
The only issue with the GRAND is it wasn’t the most affordable. The ROLI Seaboard RISE, by all accounts, could be the most exciting thing to happen to electronic music in the last 50 years and you can get hold of your very own for £599.99 from the ROLI Website with deliveries expected on the 9th October.
