We’ve been handed a trailer for the film motion picture of Spooks! Spooks: The Greater Good, to give it its full title, is a motion picture of the hit BBC espionage TV show. We’re massive fans of the original series and the trailer gives us barrels full of hope that this will live up to expectations.

Spooks: The Greater Good Film Trailer

The biggest coup for the Spooks team is they’ve got Game of Thrones star Kit Harington on board. Jon Snow will be swapping wildling infiltration for even more covert operations as he plays former MI-5 agent Will Holloway.

The plot stems from “the most serious failure in the organisation’s history” as MI-5 lose a high ranking prisoner Adam Qasim (Elyes Gabel). The fallout sees secret service legend head of counter-terrorism Harry Pierce, played by Peter Firth, resign in disgrace before disappearing off the Thames Bridge in the middle of the night. From the trailer it appears as though Will Holloway was Pierce’s former protégé before he was decommissioned by his mentor but has been brought back to track down his old boss.

It’s hard not to think “Bourne” when watching the trailer, but if it comes even within a fraction of the beloved Matt Damon series we’ll be over the moon. Kit Harrington looks the part too and will obviously draw in the crowds.

Co-starring Jennifer Ehle, Elyes Gabel and Tim McInnerny, Spooks: The Greater Good gets its UK release on the 8th May 8. It’s also directed by the man who made the original pilot episode back in 2002, Bharat Nalluri. Check out the trailer below.
