Four years after 12 Years A Slave won best picture at the Oscars, Steve McQueen is finally returning to the big screen with ‘Widows’, co-written by ‘Gone Girl’ author Gillian Flynn. Set to hit cinemas later in the year, the first trailer for the thriller has just dropped, and with its stacked cast list, it looks like this is very must one to watch!
Steve McQueen may be known for taking on some of the more challenging subject matters in his films, from hunger strikes (‘Hunger’) to sex addiction (‘Shame) and slavery (‘12 Years A Slave’), but ‘Widows’ appears to be something entirely different and looks to be his most commercial movie to date.
‘Widows’ stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo as four women who decide to finish the heist that killed their four husbands. Alongside the four leads, it will also star Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Carrie Coon, Robert Duvall, and Get Out/Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya.
The cast is obvious stacked and it’ll be interesting to see how such a usually challenging director elevates what on the surface is a textbook heist movie. It’s also refreshing to see a thriller led by predominantly female leads.
‘Widows’ will hit cinemas in the UK on 9th November 2018. Check out the first official trailer below and let us know what you think.
Last month, the first full-length trailer for Queen biopic, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, was finally released, with Mr Robot star Rami Malek starring as the enigmatic Freddie Mercury.
