Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film that almost wasn’t, The Hateful Eight, has now got itself an official trailer for Joes who weren’t at Comic-Con and we like what we’re seeing!
Set in Wyoming, Tarantino’s latest flick is set roughly a decade after the American Civil War and follows bounty hunter John ‘The Hangman’ Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) as they travel across the snowy plains.
Along the way they encounter another bounty hunter, Major Marquis Warren played by Tarantino regular Samuel L. Jackson, and another man, played by Walter Goggins, who claims to be a sheriff. Hoping to find shelter from the blizzard, the group retreat to a tiny shack where they encounter four strangers, and soon learn that they may not make it to their destination after all.
The trailer doesn’t give away too much in terms of dialogue, almost certainly because QT likes his swears fast and loose, but the trailer does feature stunning shots of snowy vistas, courtesy of the Tarantino regular, Robert Richardson, who shot Hateful Eight in pristine 70mm.
There’s also plenty of hints at off-beat comic routines and we’re going to stick our necks out and guess there’ll be ample violence too. It looks quintessential Tarantino and you can see where the comparison of Django Unchained meets Reservoir Dogs has come from. We for one can’t wait!
Co-starring Tarantino regulars Demián Bichir and Michael Madsen, the cast is also joined by newbies James Parks and Zoe Bell. While the trailer promises a Christmas release, as it stands The Hateful Eight is scheduled to arrive over here in the UK on 8th January next year.
