The very first trailer for the second instalment of the Hobbit trilogy of films has been released. The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug Trailer.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug picks up immediately where the first film left off. Although we are as mad as most of you that this single book is split into three movies, we have to admit that it does look good! Set for release December 2013, this is our first proper glimpse of what is in store…
It looks like we’ll get heaps of action again, This time around, we get to meet Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel is back, as is Elijah Wood’s Frodo. However new to the trilogy is the dragon Samug in all his terrifying glory, voiced by the current flavour of the year Benedict Cumberbatch (who we thought was excellent in Star Trek). You can’t help but notice that Orlando Bloom has somehow wormed his way back into Middle Earth – thank god the Elf doesn’t need much emotion because that guy is so wooden you’d expect him to play an Ent.
When Peter Jackson filmed the Hobbit, it was set to be a single feature film. Then those studio execs realised the sort of money they could make by splitting it, extending it and releasing them over a three year period. Sure, that can be a pain, it has given Jackson more time to fiddle with the details, add extras from the archives of Tolkein and really breathe more life into the story that so many of us read when we were young (or those that read it jumping on the Lord of the Rings bandwagon). Whilst we weren’t blown away by the first part, it was visually stunning and just great to see a little hobbit back on a big screen – and arguably that movie was a ridiculously long teaser trailer. But that aside, check the teaser trailer out for yourself!
