Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!
Things to Do This Weekend in London
Notting Hill Carnival 2018
Sunday 26th & Monday 27th August. Free.
With an estimated 2 million people attending last year, Notting Hill Carnival is undoubtedly Europe’s biggest street festival. And while it gets a bad rep from some outsiders, we’ve always found the Carnival nothing but positive and spectacular. Really, it’s a must for any Londoner and should be on the list for those close enough to travel too!
The 2018 Carnival takes places this Sunday and Monday over the bank holiday and will feature the famed parade and fantastic live music from all around the world. There’ll be 37 static soundsystems, soca floats, steel bands and some of the best food you can find outside of the Caribbean. Given the scale of the Carnival, tubes and bus routes always get disrupted, so check the TFL Website for travel updates.
Location: Various. Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate.
Until Saturday 25th August. From £33.99.
Immersive drinking haunts are all the rage these days and one of the newest on the London scene is Moonshine Saloon. Inspired by the tales of classic Westerns and their undercover operations, Moonshine Saloon is a one-of-a-kind, immersive, bring-you-own-booze cocktail bar where visitors are transported to the streets of the Wild West, before experiencing life inside Moonshine Saloon.
Once you’ve been decked out in your very own Stetson Hat to blend in with the local, you’ll find a recreation of a dusty frontier town. Play some cards at the General Store and get some personalised Moonshine cocktails made with your spirit of choice. Find out more here, where each ticket gets you 1 hour and 45 minutes inside the Saloon along with 4 cocktails.
Location: Moonshine Saloon, 535 Kings Road, SW10 0SZ. Nearest Tube: Sloane Square.
Things to Do This Weekend in Manchester
Manchester Pride Festival 2018
Saturday 25th August. Free.
The Manchester Pride Festival returns this Saturday for a multi-coloured weekend of love and acceptance. Themed ‘Circus of Acceptance’, this year’s Pride Parade starts at 12 noon on Liverpool Road and is billed as ‘brighter and bolder’ than ever before. As such, expect stilt-walkers, unicyclists, circus performers, clowns, jugglers and trapeze artists.
As well as the Parade, there’s also a massive music festival taking place in Manchester’s Gay Village. The Big Weekend takes place from Friday 24th to Monday 27th August and will feature pop stars like Rita Ora and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears performing. There’s loads going on all around the city, so check out the full schedule here.
Things to Do This Weekend in Glasgow
Glasgow Canal Festival
Saturday 25th August. Free.
The second annual Glasgow Canal Festival returns this weekend to Glasgow’s iconic Forth & Clyde Canal. As well as makers’ market and a street food village, there’ll be live music all day and activities such as stand-up paddle boarding. Essentially, there’s something for everyone.
Just like last year, there’ll also be the ever-popular Dragon Boat Racing, with competitors signing up to battle it out to become the Festival Dragon Boat Champions. For the young visitors, the World Youth Urban Games will also be taking place where you can watch world-class parkour, skateboard and BMX performers.
Location: Forth & Clyde Canal between Spiers Wharf and Applecross Basin.
Things to Do This Weekend in Bristol
Friday 24th August. From £6.50.
One of Cardiff’s best venues, DEPOT, will once again be hosting the craziest night in town this Friday – Bingo Lingo! If you’re not familiar with the concept, Bingo Lingo isn’t like you’re a night with your Nan at Gala. Expect dance-offs, twerking, joke prizes and the dreaded wheel of misfortune.
Like all DEPOT events, as well as the bingo, there’ll be craft beer, cocktails, DJs, and some of Cardiff’s best street food vendors to boot. While DEPOT always recommend you buy tickets in advance, there will be 50 tickets will be saved for the door, but they work on a first come first served basis. Find out more here.
Location: DEPOT Cardiff, 22 Dumballs Road, CF10 5FE.
