Things to Do This Weekend

Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!

Things to Do This Weekend in London

East End Independents’ Day
Saturday 3rd December. Free.

East London can be accused of many things, but not supporting their independent makers and shops is not one of them. And this weekend marks the annual East End Independents’ Day where the brewers, bakers, crafters and makers of the East End open up their doors for a day of festive celebration.

This year there’ll be Alice in Wonderland characters taking over Columbia Road, as well as hot chocolates and mulled ciders on offer all the way from Broadway Market in Hackney to Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane in Shoreditch. Head over to the East End Trades Guild Website to see all the day’s events.

Location: Various.

London International Animation Festival
Friday 2nd – Sunday 11th December. £3.

The London International Animation Festival basically does what it says on the tin. With animators travelling the globe to be in London this week, the LIAF presents some of the most ground-breaking new animations as well as putting on some classic retrospectives.

The 10-day Festival includes gala premieres, retrospectives, Q&A’s with filmmakers, workshops, audience voting, and the Best of the Festival screening. Screenings will be taking place all over London across the week, so head over to the LIAF Website to see the schedule.

Location: Various.

Things to Do This Weekend in Manchester

Whitworth Frost Fair
Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th December. Free.

Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery is hosting a pop-up winter Frost Fair this weekend with a real Scandinavian festive feel. ‘Hygge’ is the order of the weekend, a Danish word which encompasses all things cosy as well as togetherness and friendship. Essentially that means there’ll be all the Christmas warming street food and drink you can imagine.

The Frost Fair will transform the main sculpture court into the Ice Queen’s Courtyard with an all-ages ice rink that will be open to the public between performances with skate hire available on site. There’ll also be a Christmas Market, an outdoor cinema and even a fireworks display.

Location: Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Road, M15 6ER.

Things to Do This Weekend in Cardiff

Winter Wonderland 2016
Until Tuesday 3rd January 2017.

If the Joes of Wales didn’t know already, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland is back for 2016 to put everyone in a festive mood in the run up to Christmas – only this year there’s a difference. Thanks to 2015’s awful weather which closed the skating rink for long periods, this year it’s been covered to offer ice skating for all ages no matter the weather.

As well as the Admiral Ice Rink, other attractions include the Giant Wheel at the funfair and the cosy Alpine Village which offers locals some real après-ski at the Bierkeller Bar. Think warming Gluhwein as well as refreshing beer.

Location: City Hall Lawn, Gorsedd Gardens Road, CF10 3ND.

Things to Do This Weekend in Bristol

St Nicks Night Market
Friday 2nd December. Free.

For one night only, Bristol’s famed St Nick’s Market turns into St Nicks Night Market for a night of magical festive feasting. As well as all the market’s regulars like Pieminister and Source, there’ll also be a DJ on duty in the Glass Arcade too.

Buy a bag of hot roasted chestnuts and a cup of mulled cider to enjoy as you wander around the stalls and keep an eye out for the breakdancing Santa’s and other unexpected performances taking place around the market as you go.

Location: Corn Street, BS1 1JQ.
