Things to Do This Weekend

Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!

Things to Do This Weekend in London

The Near Mint Record Fair

Saturday 23rd June. Free.

The Near Mint Record Fair is back at Pop Brixton this Saturday, bringing with it incredible records of all genres from dealers, labels and indies, as well as a stellar line-up of DJ’s, street food and good booze.

A little more than the standard fair, Near Mint aims to get as many records as possible in one space, so you should find something to take your fancy. They’ll also be live streaming and globally broadcasting DJ sets throughout the day. Pop Brixton is generally one our favourite weekend hangouts in the capital regardless of what’s going on, but this should be a good one!

Location: Pop Brixton, 49 Brixton Station Road, SW9 8PQ. Nearest Tube: Brixton.

The London Mastaba at The Serpentine

Until Sunday 23rd September. Free.

A 20-metre-high floating installation has just been installed in the middle of Hyde Park’s Serpentine Lake in central London. Named ‘The London Mastaba’, the Christo-designed sculpture is completely free to view and you can even get up close if you rent out a pedalo for the afternoon – as if you needed any excuse!

Based on the trapezoid shapes of a mastaba – an Arabic word for bench given to Egyptian tombs – The London Mastaba is made of 7,506 painted barrels secured to scaffolding and anchored in the lake. Check out more details here.

Location: Hyde Park. Nearest Tube: Knightsbridge.

june-22-24-manchester-gobefest

Things to Do This Weekend in Manchester

Góbéfest

Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th June. Free.

Manchester’s Albert Square is always a hub of weird and wonderful activities at the weekend, and this one is no different with the arrival of Góbéfest – the UK’s only Transylvanian festival of arts and culture. Last year saw 10,000 Mancunians take part in the likes of traditional folk dancing and soak up the unique sounds of a zither orchestra.

This weekend’s free event will pack much of the same with Transylvanian craft beer and delicacies on offer, including chimney cake and lángos (fried dough served with various toppings such as crème frèche and garlic). Góbéfest will also shine a light on the culture and folklores of other ten other European countries, including Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey.

Location: Albert Square, M2 5DB.
