Things to Do This Weekend
Last updated on August 11th, 2016 at 12:04 pm
Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!
Things to Do This Weekend in London
Pergola on the Roof
Until Monday 29th August. Free
If you’ve got an afternoon free in the capital this weekend and fancy a chilled one with some friends, we wholeheartedly recommend heading Shepherd’s Bush way and catching the lift up to the Mediterranean-designed Pergola on the Roof.
The rooftop bar/street eat haunt is partly covered by a wooden trellis and features four delicious food stalls – Rabbit, Salt Yard, Patty & Bun, and Lecoq – as well as an extensive bar and plenty of seating for a perfect lazy day of eating and drinking in the sun.
Location: Multi-Storey Car Park, Television Centre, Wood Lane, W12 7RJ. Nearest Tube: White City.
Saturday 6th August. £27.50 to play, £10 to watch.
It’s not the first time we’ve featured dodgeball on our Things to Do list and it probably won’t be the last, but this weekend marks probably the biggest dodgeball event on the London calendar in Wimbledon Rugby Club’s Dodgeballdayer, all in aid of the charity Mencap.
Inspired by the five Ds of dodgeball, this all-day event brings you an afternoon of dodgeball, live DJs, a raffle with incredible prizes, and an auction. Of course, there’ll be plenty food and drink stalls to keep you going too. A word of warning; if you want to compete, fancy dress is sort of a requirement!
Location: Wimbledon Rugby Club, Barham Road, SW20 0ET. Nearest Tube: Wimbledon.
Things to Do This Weekend in Bristol
Saturday 6th August. £10.
Another summer weekend, another festival. This time it’s the turn of Bristol and their all-day festival of rugby and music with Brizfest 2016. Held at the Old Redcliffians Rugby Football Club, the festival features all the best things – food, drink, music and rugby!
The festival will host the annual South Bristol rugby 7s tournament, but if you’re not a rugby Joe, there’ll be all the BBQ you can eat. Brizfest 2016 also has a cocktail bar, a reptile exhibition, arts and crafts, kid’s rides, and even a climbing wall. Music will be provided by The Mangledwurzels, Mission Blue (Motown tribute) and Too Toned (ska tribute), among others.
Location: Old Redcliffians RFC, Scotland Lane, BS14 8NR.
Things to Do This Weekend in Manchester
Sadler’s Yard Summer Jam!
Saturday 6th August. Free.
Manchester and music go together like cheese and marmite (trust us – it works), so we reckon heading to Sadler’s Yard Summer Jam this weekend is as good an option as any. The mini day ‘festival’ is offering up some of the North’s best up and coming acts with the likes of John Haycock, The Lake Poets, and Stealing Sheep all taking to the stage.
Of course, the food and booze hasn’t been forgotten either, with beer from Portable Street Beer House and stalls such as What’s Your Beef?, Honest Crust and The Mexican Pilgrim all on duty too. There’ll also be DJ sets from Dutch Uncles and SMS. The event is free of charge but booking is recommend.
Location: Sadler’s Yard, Hanover Street, M60 0AB.
Things to Do This Weekend in Cambridge
Cambridge Magic of Thailand Festival
Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th August. £3 Adults, £1 Children.
If Thailand appeals more than Manchester, head to the Magic of Thailand festival which hits Cambridge this weekend. The two day event offers Joes and Janes the chance to experience and taste Thailand without ever having to leave the country.
As well as some world class food, you’ll also have the chance to watch some blindfold Muay Thai boxing or simply unwind with a traditional Thai massage. There’s a Thai beer garden and plenty of activities for the kids at this family-friendly event.
Location: Parker’s Piece.
