Things to Do This Weekend
Last updated on January 26th, 2017 at 12:15 pm
Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!
Things to Do This Weekend in London
Ravenswood For Heat or Eat
Saturday 21st January. Free.
We’ve mentioned it many times here at AJ, but one of London’s real hidden gems comes in the form of an industrial estate in Walthamstow of all places. Home to two micro-breweries, Wild Card Brewery and Pillars Brewery, as well as a gin palace (Mother’s Ruin) and the biggest collection of neon signage in Europe at God’s Own Junkyard, Ravenswood Industrial Estate is as good as ugly East London gets. And this weekend their throwing a mini festival!
Put on in conjunction with Byrd Out to raise money for Eat or Heat, a food bank in East London, the Ravenswood For Heat or Heat will see music and DJs playing across all four venues. There’ll be food from the likes of local Sodo Pizza Café and there’ll be a raffle and activities going on well into the evening.
Location: Ravenswood Industrial Estate, Shernhall Street, E17 9HQ. Nearest Tube: Walthamstow Central.
The Adventure Travel Show
Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd January. From £8.
Now in its 21st year, The Adventure Travel Show is the UK’s only event dedicated to discovering the world off the beaten track. The large-scale exhibition gives Joes and Janes the chance to get face-to-face with the biggest collection of specialist adventure travel companies in the business, just to give you that travel bug.
There’ll be over 100 free inspirational talks over four theatres throughout the weekend, and visitors can even book in for some travel writing and photography seminars. While you shouldn’t need to book to get into the event, we’d recommend booking any seminars.
Location: Olympia London, Hammersmith Road, W14 8UX. Nearest Tube: Kensington (Olympia).
Things to Do This Weekend in Manchester
Manchester Beer and Cider Festival 2017
Thursday 19th – Saturday 21st January. From £7.
We’re never going to turn down a beer festival and this weekend Manchester is the place to be with the Beer and Cider Festival 2017. Housing over 750 different types of beer and cider, both keg and cask, the festival will see some of the best brewers from the UK and further afield bringing their best brews for your tasting pleasure.
While #MBCF17 is all about the beer, you’ll also be suitably well fed with a wide range of street food stalls on duty, including the likes of the Crusty Pie Company and What’s Your Beef, serving some of the best locally sourced beef burgers you can eat.
Location: Manchester Central, Windmill Street, M2 3GX.
Things to Do This Weekend in Birmingham
Eat at Hawker Yard
Fridays and Saturdays. Free.
Inspired by the hawker centres of Asia & the ruin bars of Budapest… Hawker Yard is a local, independent food adventure with global inspiration. The unique street food space homes some of the best culinary stars Birmingham has to offer, making it a great place to start the evening.
The bars and stalls are housed in shipping containers which surround a central mezzanine built out of brand new scaffolding gear, all dressed up with paper lanterns, festoon lighting and rough-hewn furniture.
Location: 62-70 Pershore Street . B5 4RR.
Things to Do This Weekend in Bristol
Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade
Saturday 21st January. Free.
Rescheduled from the cancelled December event, the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade is finally set to take place this weekend with locals bringing along their homemade lanterns big and small for a real community event. And the sixth annual parade is set to be the biggest one yet.
Starting at 4.30pm outside St Francis Church, the parade will be going all the way down North Street and up along Canon Street. Naturally there’ll also be some fireworks setting off at the end of the parade just after 6pm.
Location: St Francis Church, North Street, BS3 2AN.
