Things to Do This Weekend

Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!
Things to Do This Weekend in London
Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd September. Free.
We’ll say it quietly but Autumn is coming… But we don’t think that’s a reason to get down. This weekend Greenwich is playing host to a village fete with an urban twist in Sample Autumn, a celebration of fresh produce and modern craftsmanship.
Pick up work from new designers, craft makers and boutique pop-ups. Sample showcases the latest emerging creatives from the worlds of fashion, beauty, art, design and homewares with their new collections, archive and one off show-pieces alongside a seasonal food market of fresh ingredients. There’ll also be a whole host of horticulture perfect for urban gardens!
Location: Greenwich Peninsula, 1 Green Place, SE10 0PE. Nearest Tube: North Greenwich.
God’s Own Junkyard
Open Fridays – Sundays. Free.
What do Soho sex shops, Bladerunner, Batman and an industrial estate in Walthamstow all have in common? That’s right! They all feature dazzling neon artwork by the late Chris Bracey. And you can see a display from the artist’s gallery of signs for free at Gods Own Junkyard! Here you’ll find his life’s work in what constitutes as the biggest collection of neon lighting and signage in Europe.
The awe-inspiring Gods Own Junkyard is a real hidden gem in London and it acts as the perfect space to showcase Bracey’s achievements. It’s attached to a café too, and not just any café, it’s called the Rolling Scones Café! You get it? There’s no real menu as such but they serve good tea, good coffee and excellent homemade cakes and scones. It’s also located next to a gin bar and two microbrewies!
Location: Unit 12, Ravenswood Industrial Estate, Shernhall Street, E17 9HQ. Nearest Tube: Walthamstow Central.
Things to Do This Weekend in Birmingham
Gin Festival Birmingham
Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd September. £15.
If you love your gin as much as we do at Average Joes HQ, folks around Birmingham this weekend are in for a treat as the Gin Festival rolls into town! The UK’s first, biggest and best gin festival is making a fourth visit to Birmingham at the brand new and really exciting venue of Market Hall at the Custard Factory.
There will be over 100 different gins to try, including brand new gins and exclusive gins you won’t see anywhere else. There will also be gin masterclasses and the opportunity to meet gin distillers in person, a gin cocktail bar, live music and gorgeous food.
Location: Market Hall, The Custard Factory, Gibb Street, B9 4AA.
Things to Do This Weekend in Bristol
Rum Bus with Appleton Estate
Saturday 2nd September. £32.50.
Now, is there anything better than enjoying delicious cocktails in the sun? How ‘bout a 2-hour long tour of our magical city on an open-top bus with delicious rum cocktails served along the way? And if you’ve always found city tours rather naff, well… think again! We’ve got our own alternative guide ready to dish out the most useless facts you may (or may not) want to know about Bristol!
We’re really excited to be teaming up with Appleton Estate to bring Bristol its first ever rum bus. Appleton Estate is an authentic Jamaican aged rum made in the Cockpit Country – a unique, lush, and fertile terrain nestled in Jamaica’s beating heart.
Pick Up: Bar Humbug, 89 Whiteladies Road, BS8 2NT.
Things to Do This Weekend in Manchester
Manchester Thai Festival
Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd September. £4.
Returning to Platt Fields Park, the annual Manchester Thai Festival is back this weekend and it’s bigger than ever. The two day event offers Joes and Janes the chance to experience and taste Thailand without ever having to leave the country with traditional food and live music across the weekend.
As well as some world class food, there’ll also be live cooking demos, Thai produce, live music and a Thai beer garden. You’ll also have the chance to watch some blindfold Muay Thai boxing or simply unwind with a traditional Thai massage. There’s a Thai beer garden and plenty of activities for the kids at this family-friendly event.
Location: Platt Fields Park, M14 6LA,.
