Things to Do This Weekend
Every week we’ll be giving Joes the best things to do this weekend no matter where you are in the country. Whether it’s the best new bars, clubs, restaurants, films or events, we’ve got you covered!
Things to Do This Weekend in London
Watch the Super Bowl
Sunday 5th February.
The Super Bowl takes places this weekend as the Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons look to upset the New England Patriots and the league’s golden boy To Brady. The Super Bowl is always a bit of an event with us here at Joes and we know we’re not the only ones who struggle to stay awake as they tuck into their fifth hot dog while pretending they know what ‘Shotgun Formation’ means!
The game may kick off a little earlier than usual but staying up until 4am can be a slog unless you’ve done some tactical sleep pattern planning. So we say get out of the house and go hit one of London’s many venues that will be hosting parties for the event. The atmosphere alone will be enough to see you through until sunlight! Here’s some of the best places to watch the Super Bowl in London.
VFX Festival 2017
Tuesday 7th – Thursday 9th February. From £45.
Presented by Escape Studios, the VFX Festival is back for 2017 and it’s bigger, better and bolder than ever before. The festival brings together some of the biggest behind-the-scenes film talent from around the world who’ll be presenting their work from some of the biggest titles of the past year.
Headliners at the Festival will be Framestore, who’ll be hosting an exclusive talk on Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, and this’ll be the first time that the VFX effects for the new film have been discussed at length. There’ll also be CGI and visual effects talks from the makers of the likes of Independence Day: Resurgence and The Jungle Book remake.

Cadbury’s Creme Egg Hunting Lodge

It’s that time of year again: Creme Eggs are back, and Cadbury’s now annual Cafe is coming back with them! To be precise, it’s actually a Hunting Lodge this year, and this weekend it’s heading to Cadbury’s hometown of Birmingham for a weekend full of hot chocolate and chocolate toasties.
The lodge will be stationed outside the Bullring where Joes and Janes can either book a slot or turn up for a quick takeaway S’mores sandwich. Tickets cost £4.71 with 100% of the proceeds going to the Prince’s Trust Charity. Be warned; they are almost gone, so you need to get in quick.

Things to Do This Weekend in Liverpool
Drink at Berry & Rye
Daily, 5pm – 2am.
If you’ve been partaking in Dry January, this weekend is probably going to mark the mother of all blowouts. But we think if you’re going to do it, you may as well do it in style. And for folks in Liverpool, that means heading to The Berry & Rye, one of the most authentic speakeasy bars in the country.
Inspired by pre-Prohibition era drinking haunts, The Berry & Rye approaches its cocktails from an experimental, contemporary and culinary perspective. That means while all the classic are covered, there’s also some standout twists offered. If you’re lucky, there’s also some live blues/jazz a few nights a week.
Location: 48 Berry Street, L1 4JQ.
Things to Do This Weekend in Bristol
Wing’s Diner Pop-Up
Sunday 5th February. £20.
Bristol is as good a place as any in the country for its street food, with St Nicks being the hub for most of the activity. And this Sunday, one of the more interesting pop-ups in the city will be taking over Bagel Boy with Wing’s Diner Pop-Up.
Famed for their Asian-twisted juicy buttermilk fried chicken, Wing’s are hosting a 3-course dinner with dishes also including Yasai Korroke (Japanese potato cakes) and a Coconut Brownie to finish things off. Spaces are naturally limited, so you’ll need register your interest ASAP.
