Tom Cruise Stars in First Trailer for The Mummy
It was only a few days ago Universal gave us our first glimpse at the upcoming reboot of The Mummy. Well, today they’ve got one step further in releasing the first full-length trailer starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, and it’s perked our interest if nothing else!
The first extended look at The Mummy reboot is here, introducing us to a whole new world of gods and monsters. Starring real life superhero Tom Cruise, the first trailer doesn’t give too much away in terms of plot – but then there’s probably not too much to give away in the first place. From what we can tell, an ancient princess is awoken and tears the gaff up. So very much as expected!
The interest comes from the tone of the trailer. While Brandon Fraser’s 1999 original was more camp horror, the 2017 reboot appears to be Mission: Impossible meets Underworld in an action horror. In the new film, Cruise stars as Nick Morton, a man who wakes up in an unknown facility having just been in a military plane crash that was carrying said Mummy.
The Mummy herself is played by Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond). “Please meet Princess Ahmanet,” crows a rather stern looking, as the princess wreaks havoc over London. “She will claim what she has been denied,” we’re told. In fairness, Boutella looks like she’ll be providing plenty of scares if the trailer is anything to go by.
The Mummy reboot will also star Courtney B. Vance, Annabelle Wallis, and Jake Johnson, with Alex Kurtzman on directing duties, and it’s due to hit cinemas in summer 2017. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think!
