Twentieth Century Fox has just dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Set for release early next year, in Dark Phoenix, Mystique, Magneto, and Professor X face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey – played by Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner.

The First Trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix Is Here

Directed and written by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix is set to tell arguably one of the most essential X-Men stories in the comic books: that of Jean and her relationship to the Phoenix, a powerful cosmic entity.

As the official synopsis has it; “During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain.” Check out the trailer below…

With Jean spiralling out of control, the X-Men must find a way to unite a family that’s falling apart by saving Jean’s soul. Oh, and they also need to save the planet from aliens who want to weaponise Jean’s new force and rule the galaxy with it…

During the trailer, we see a glimpse of Jean’s chaotic childhood, including a car crash that kills her parents – every villain needs some back story these days! Elsewhere, we see the return of Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy as Mystique, Magneto, and Professor X. But rather ominously there’s some shots from a funeral scene, where Mystique is conspicuous by her absence…

X-Men: Dark Phoenix co-stars Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp and Jessica Chastain and is scheduled to hit cinema on 5th February 2019. But that has changed more than once already!
