Not that we ever really needed any confirmation that LEGO wasn’t just for kids given they released a faithful model of a Bugatti Chiron earlier this year, but for those in any doubt, the Danish brick builders have just announced they’re releasing a fully-functioning wind turbine, which features pieces made from LEGO’s first sustainable plastic.

LEGO Announce Fully-Functioning Wind Turbine

Developed in partnership with the world’s leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, Vestas, the LEGO Creator Expert 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine (to give it its full name) will be the first time LEGO fans can purchase a set which features new ‘Plants from Plants’ elements – made from plant-based plastic sourced from sugarcane.

Standing at around 1 metre tall, just like a real wind turbine, builders will be creating their very own green energy. The detailed, motorised wind turbine model can be turned either left or right to activate the mechanically adjustable wind turbine blades and working porch light through the included Power Functions motor.

The set also celebrates green energy by featuring a brand new spruce tree which is manufactured from sustainably sourced plant-based plastic. The inclusion of the tree is part of the first steps in the LEGO Group’s ambition to use sustainable materials in products by 2030 and packaging by 2025. Other features in the set include a wooded hill and a house with furnished patio, mailbox, flowers and a white picket fence.

The LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine is set for release on 23rd November over at the LEGO Website. If that date rings a bell, that’s because it’s Black Friday! The set is priced at £159.99.
