TASTED: Voodoo Ranger Hazy IPA

The awesome chaps and chapesses at Voodoo Ranger sent me a little Valentine’s Day gift this year. They sent me a handful of their tasty Hazy IPA and some boozy fragrance.

I’m a big fan of a good IPA. They’re easy to drink and fill the spot that lager did in my younger days. They offer that refreshing hit without sitting heavy. So when my surprise package from Voodoo Ranger turned up just before Valentine’s Day, I was quite chuffed.

So who or what is Voodoo Ranger? According to their website, the man is a myth and a legend. “When he’s not skydiving with sharks or greco-Roman wrestling with grizzly bears, you can find him playing high-stakes poker with Jean Claude Van-Damme in the basement of a German underground techno club called ‘Spicé'”. The company though originally launched in 2017 and is part of world-renowned New Belgium Brewing.

Voodoo Ranger has become one of the best-selling IPA brands in America and is the second largest IPA brand family by volume. From their “bold Imperial IPA to the smooth drinking Juicy Haze IPA, Voodoo Ranger has a great tasting IPA for every occasion”.

And they do taste great. The Hazy IPA goes down smoothly and isn’t overly sharp. It has a tropical twist but not so much that you’d call it a fruity beer. I like it because it isn’t trying too hard to sit in any particular flavour camp. It just tastes good and is easy to drink. I expect they’ll be especially tasty on a hot Summer’s day but trust me they work pretty well during winter too.

But what about the fragrance? Well, I can’t really comment as Covid has left me without any sense of smell despite contracting it almost two months ago. The bottle is cool and maybe if we get to go somewhere soon I’ll try it out.
