Who’s That Girl: GLOW’s Alison Brie
Though the World Cup has taken up most of our viewing time this summer, we’ve still found time to binge a Netflix series or two. And our favourite at the moment is GLOW, featuring Alison Brie as wrestler Ruth ‘Zoya the Destroya’ Wilder. But if like us you couldn’t quite put your finger on where you recognised her from, read on below…
Like most actors working on TV, Alison Brie has actually appeared on far more than you might realise. If you’re of a certain age, you may recognise Brie from her days as a hairdresser on Hannah Montana. But more likely, you’ll recognise her as Pete Campbell’s wife Trudy in Mad Men and as Annie Edison from the sitcom Community.
Having starred in both shows until 2015, she then started to take film roles in the likes of Sleeping with Other People and Get Hard alongside Will Ferrell. More recently, Brie co-starred in historical comedy The Little Hours, biographical comedy-drama The Disaster Artist, and the Oscar-dominated The Post.
But it’s her work in GLOW which has really caught the attention. Inspired by the 80s female professional wrestling league, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Brie stars as Ruth ‘Zoya the Destroya’ Wild, who’s finishing move is a Sit-Out Facebuster. In the first series, she won the Inagural GLOW Championship.
Brie has also made plenty of ‘hot-lists’ over the years, appearing in Maxim 2010 Hot 100 list in 2010 and 2011. She was voted the 57th sexiest woman in the world by FHM readers in 2013, and in 2014 she was voted the 2nd most desirable woman in the world by Askmen readers. It’s not hard to see why judging from these images…
