With World Cup fever gripping the country, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Wimbledon gets underway next week. And while we’re obviously hoping Andy Murray and Jo Konta can pull something out of the bag, realistically we’re all going to need a reason to tune in when they inevitably get knocked out. So here’s the hottest female players at Wimbledon 2018…
Despite having been around seemingly forever, Caroline Wozniacki is still one of women’s tennis biggest names with 28 WTA singles titles to her name. The Danish superstar also finally won her first Grand Slam title earlier this year at the Australian Open and will be looking to add to it at Wimbledon, where she’s seeded second. If you’re not into your tennis, you may know Wozniacki for her engagement to Rory McIlroy, only for it to suddenly be broken off. She’s now in a relationship with US basketball player David Lee.
At 23 years old, Elina Svitolina is currently one of the hottest talents on the WTA circuit and is always ranked at No.5 in the world having won 12 singles titles in her relatively short career. The Ukrainian will be looking to grab her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon having made the quarters at the Australian in January.
Having been banned for 15 months for taking the drug meldonium, Maria Sharapova is still one of the game’s biggest stars and will be grunting her way to Wimbledon for the first time since 2015. The former world number one and five Grand Slam champion has found a little form of late and made the quarter finals at the French Open. As always, she’ll be one to tune into to.
At 25-years-old, Sloane Stephens became the lowest ranked woman to ever win the US Open at the end of 2017 and looks to be the natural successor to Serena Williams’ throne. She’s now ranked fourth in the world and recently featured in Sports Illustrated’s illustrious Swimwear Edition.
Slovak Dominika Cibulkova has seen her form drop off in recent years but she’ll be hoping to better her Australian and French Open displays, where she failed to get past the first round. The glamorous star is an icon in her home country and is well worth an Instagram follow!
She may be relatively unknown, but Camila Giorgi is most definitely one you’re going to want to watch. She’s never reached beyond the 4th Round at Wimbledon and isn’t ranked highly either, but the 5ft 6” Italian might be the cutest player on the tour!
We had to save our best until last. Canadian Genie Bouchard has been dubbed the new Anna Kournikova – and with good reason. The blonde bombshell burst onto the scene back in 2014 when she reached the Wimbledon final and she’s made headlines ever since, with a much publicised spat with Sharapova over her drugs ban and by going on a date with a fan after losing a Super Bowl bet. She’s also a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition regular… it’s not hard to see why!
